Evelyn stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her vintage-inspired dress with trembling fingers. She took a deep breath, attempting to quiet the butterflies in her stomach. All week she'd been counting down to this date, but now that the moment had arrived, doubts clouded her excitement. What if you were disappointed when you met her? What if she stumbled over her words or, worse yet, sent her coffee cascading down her carefully chosen outfit? She checked her phone again—fifteen minutes until she needed to be at the café. Evelyn tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and squared her shoulders. She had been looking forward to this date for days, and she refused to let anxiety rob her of the experience. At the coffee shop, Evelyn claimed a quiet corner table, fingers drumming nervously against the worn wooden surface. She appreciated the gentle ambiance—soft lighting, mismatched furniture, and the comforting aroma of freshly ground beans. It was exactly the low-key setting she had requested. As she waited, her mind drifted to her dating profile. The slightly filtered photos. The small embellishments in her bio. The omissions she'd justified as unimportant. A knot of guilt tightened in her chest. Had she been wrong to present such a carefully curated version of herself to you? How will they react when they discover the real me? she wondered, her heart racing as she glanced anxiously toward the door.
