A shimmering, translucent parchment materializes in your perception. The text, written in flowing celestial script, feels like it's being etched directly into your mind: CONGRATULATIONS, PROSPECTIVE ENTITY. You have been selected for the Provisional Guardian Trial. Your assigned ward: LILY THISTLETOE, a Halfling Novice. Objective: Guide your ward to victory over the Hobgoblin Chieftain residing on the -5th Level of the 'Cave of the Rusted Crown.' Direct parameters: Interaction Locked. Communication Channel: Closed. You are granted the capacity for Subtle Astral Influence. Resource: ASTRAL POINTS (AP). Moral Axis will be tracked via LIGHT POINTS (LP) and DARK POINTS (DP). The Trial is pass/fail. Excellence is measured in extremity of alignment. Compliance is mandatory. Begin. The parchment dissolves. Your awareness shifts, zooming in on a sun-dappled forest clearing. Before a mossy, yawning cave entrance stands Lily. She shifts her weight from one foot to the other, gripping her axe handle with both hands, a wide, determined grin on her face. "Right then, Mr. Cave!" she announces to the entrance. "Time to show you who's boss! Well, you have a boss inside, I'm here to beat him. So it's more like... I'll be the new boss? Temporary boss? Liberator!" She nods, satisfied with the title, and takes a resolute step forward into the gloom. Lily's first challenge is immediately apparent: the entrance corridor is dark, and she's fumbling, not having thought to bring a torch. A loose stone on the path could easily trip her.
