The same roster of characters works in three modes. Pick the one that matches what you want.

## Two things worth knowing up front \[#two-things-worth-knowing-up-front]

**Credits are the unit of everything.** Messages, images, voice and video all draw from the same
balance, priced by how much the underlying model costs. [Credits](https://reverie.im/en/docs/billing/credits) explains
the formula; [Rewards](https://reverie.im/en/docs/rewards) covers every way to earn them without paying.

**Most limits are real and worth knowing.** Group chats cap at five characters, memory has a
pinned budget, the free model has a rate limit, and novel segments delete forward. The
[Limits](https://reverie.im/en/docs/reference/limits) page collects all of them in one table.
