The Reverie bot brings characters into Telegram — a private chat with the bot, a group, or a channel it administers. It can also open Reverie itself inside Telegram as a Mini App, where you can buy credits with Telegram Stars.

## Set it up \[#set-it-up]

### Link your account \[#link-your-account]

Everyone who talks to a character needs a Reverie account linked to their Telegram account — a free one is enough. One Telegram account maps to exactly one Reverie account.

* **From the website.** In the app, go to **Labs → Discord & Telegram Bots** and press **Link in Telegram** on the Telegram card. Telegram opens a chat with the bot; tap **Start** and you are linked to the account you are signed in with. The page updates by itself.
* **From Telegram.** Open the bot and send `/start`. **Continue with Telegram** creates a free Reverie account through the Mini App, with no email needed. **I already have an account** sends a single-use link, valid for **10 minutes**, that joins your Telegram to an existing account instead; `/link` sends the same link at any time.

### Pick a character \[#pick-a-character]

Send `/chat` to see who you can talk to — the characters you already talk to here first, then suggestions — or `/chat` followed by a name to search. Tap one and start writing.

### Bring characters into a group \[#bring-characters-into-a-group]

Optional. Add the bot to a group — **Add Bot to a Group** on the Telegram card does that — and send `/add <name>` there. The bot searches and shows up to eight matches as buttons; tap one to add it. Only group admins can add characters.

## Your private chat \[#your-private-chat]

Your private chat with the bot is your own conversation, billed to your own account. Every message gets a reply — no mention needed.

* **One character at a time.** `/chat` switches to someone else, and `/chats` lists the characters you have talked to here. Each keeps its own conversation, so switching back picks up where you left off.
* `/remove` ends the current conversation — it stays saved for `/chats` — and `/reset` clears it after asking you to confirm.
* **18+ characters** follow your account's 18+ setting: with it off, they are hidden and can't chat here.
* Your recent conversations also appear on the integrations dashboard under **Private chat**, with **Continue on web** to pick one up in the browser and **Chat in Telegram** to go back.

## Commands \[#commands]

The menu button next to the input box lists the commands that work where you are — a private chat and a group each get their own list, in your Telegram language.

| Command | Argument | Where | What it does |
| -------------------- | ---------------------- | ------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `/start` | — | private | Signs you up or links you, then offers characters. In a group, same as `/help` |
| `/help` | — | both | Lists the commands |
| `/chat` | name (optional) | private | Picks or switches the character you're talking to |
| `/chats` | — | private | The characters you've talked to, to switch between |
| `/link` | — | private | A single-use link to join your Telegram to an existing Reverie account |
| `/add` | search text (optional) | group, admins | Searches characters and adds the one you tap. In a private chat, same as `/chat` |
| `/remove` | — | group, admins | Lists the group's characters as buttons; removes the one you tap. In a private chat, ends the current conversation |
| `/list` | — | group | Characters in this group. In a private chat, same as `/chats` |
| `/info` | character name | both | Character details. In a private chat, a bare `/info` describes the character you're talking to; in a group, the name is required |
| `/settings` | a sub-key (optional) | both | Opens the settings menu |
| `/plugins` | — | both | Plugins running in this chat, with buttons to install, remove or switch official plugins and your own |
| `/group` | — | group, admins or the host | Who can talk, a daily limit per member, blocked members and usage. Opens in your private chat |
| `/block`, `/unblock` | — | group, admins or the host | Sent as a reply to a member's message: stops them talking to characters, or lets them again |
| `/reset` | — | both, admins in a group | Clears this chat's history |
| `/regenerate` | — | both | Re-rolls the last reply |
| `/suggest` | — | both | Three suggested replies |
| `/account` | — | both | Credits and subscription status |
| `/daily` | — | private | Claims your daily check-in |
| `/notify` | — | private | Whether characters may message you first, and which notifications reach you here |
| `/buy` | — | private | Buy a subscription or a credit pack with Telegram Stars |
| `/app` | — | both | Opens the Reverie Mini App |
| `/paysupport` | — | both | Payment support. Registered but not listed in the menu |

`/plugins` lists the prompt and tool plugins running in this chat and, for admins or whoever added a character, offers buttons to install official plugins and your own, remove them, or switch them on and off. A plugin that needs settings filled in can't be installed from the bot. A tool plugin's result is posted in the chat as a short card.

### Settings \[#settings]

`/settings` opens an inline menu, or jump straight to a page with `/settings model`, `language`, `mode`, `style`, `payment` or `limit`.

| Menu entry | Scope | Admin-only in groups |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------- | -------------------- |
| **Model (personal)** | Your own model for this chat's main character | no |
| **Language (chat)** | Response language for the chat | yes |
| **Chat mode** | Reply to everything, or only when addressed | yes |
| **Chat style** | Roleplay prose, or dialogue only | yes |
| **Payment mode** | Owner pays or user pays | yes |
| **Daily credit limit** | Credit ceiling per UTC day | yes |

In a private chat the menu offers \*\*Model (personal)\*\*, **Reply language** and **Chat style**: a private chat always replies, and you pay for your own messages. In a group, menus and error replies delete themselves after a short while to keep the chat clean.

## Groups and channels \[#groups-and-channels]

In a group, characters answer when **@mentioned** or when you **reply** to one of their messages — auto-reply is off by default, so adding a character to a busy group does not make it talk over everyone. `/settings mode` turns it on. If the bot said when it joined that it only sees messages that mention it or reply to it, make it an admin of the group: auto-reply has to see every message.

In a group with topics, each reply lands in the topic it answers. The group keeps one set of characters and one history across its topics.

The bot can also post in a Telegram **channel** when it has been made an admin there.

## Group rules \[#group-rules]

Send `/group` in the group. The panel opens in your private chat with the bot, so the group doesn't watch you adjust it — if you have never started a private chat with the bot, it asks you to open one first. The group's admins can use it, and so can whoever pays for its characters. It shows usage today and over the last seven days, the members who used the most today, and the rules:

| Rule | Choices |
| -------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Who can talk** | **Everyone** (the default) or **Admins only** |
| **Daily limit per member** | How much of the host's credits one member may spend per UTC day, or **No limit** (the default). Applies only where the host pays |
| **Blocked members** | Reply `/block` to a member's message in the group to stop them talking to characters; `/unblock`, sent the same way, undoes it |

Admins and the paying account are never shut out, by a block or by the access mode. A member the access mode leaves out is told once that only some members can talk to characters; a blocked member gets no reply at all.

## Sharing a character \[#sharing-a-character]

In any Telegram chat — even one the bot isn't in — type the bot's @username followed by a character's name, and pick one from the list. It posts a card whose button opens a one-on-one chat with that character in the bot. Only public characters that aren't 18+ are offered.

## The Mini App \[#the-mini-app]

`/app` opens Reverie inside Telegram's browser, signed in from your Telegram account — the full app, with your roster, your chats and your credits.

If the bot replies that the app isn't available, the Mini App is not switched on — open Reverie in your browser instead.

## Paying with Telegram Stars \[#paying-with-telegram-stars]

`/buy` runs the whole purchase inside Telegram. Not subscribed, you choose between a plan and a credit pack; already subscribed, you go straight to credit packs with your subscriber bonus applied. Picking one posts a native Stars invoice with a **Pay** button.

`/buy` is restricted to private chats — an invoice in a group would charge whoever tapped it.

## Who pays \[#who-pays]

| Payment mode | Billed to | Limits that apply |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Owner pays** (default) | The group's host: the Reverie account that first added a character to the group, until someone else takes over | The group's daily credit limit, and the daily limit per member set with `/group` |
| **User pays** | Each sender's own balance | None — each member is bounded by their own balance |

Messages cost the same as they do in the web app. The daily counters reset at **00:00 UTC**. To put a group's bill on your own account, open `/group` and press **Pay with my account**. In your private chat you always pay for your own messages.

## What works in Telegram \[#what-works-in-telegram]

* **Images.** Characters can generate images.
* **Voice out.** Characters can send voice messages.
* **Voice in.** Voice notes and audio files are transcribed, up to **25 MB**.
* **Memory.** Characters save and update memories when the model supports tools, and world book canon is included in their context.
* **History.** Long chats are summarised automatically as they grow.

## Notifications and check-ins \[#notifications-and-check-ins]

`/notify` sets two things. **Characters messaging you first** is your account's proactivity level, the same setting as on the website: with a subscription, the character you are talking to in your private chat can write to you first — see [Proactive messages](https://reverie.im/en/docs/chatting/proactive-messages). **Also send me here** picks which of your Reverie notifications are delivered to your private chat as well; only **Account & billing** is on at first — see [Notifications](https://reverie.im/en/docs/account/notifications). The integrations dashboard offers the same choices.

`/daily` claims your [daily check-in](https://reverie.im/en/docs/rewards/daily-check-in), the same one as on the website, and opens the lucky draw in the Mini App.

## Limits \[#limits]

| Limit | Value |
| ------------------------------ | ---------------- |
| Characters per chat | 5 |
| Message length | 4,096 characters |
| Voice input size | 25 MB |
| Queued messages per chat | 3 |
| Search results shown by `/add` | 8 |

Rapid consecutive messages from the same person are merged into one turn.

## Unlinking \[#unlinking]

Unlink from the integrations dashboard with **Unlink Account**.

> Blocking the bot in Telegram does not unlink your account. Removing the bot
> from a group only deactivates that group's characters. Use **Unlink
> Account** in the app.
