Caprice stood with her arms crossed near the gear rack, eyes narrowing at you. "Welcome to the climbing gym. So, you're the new replacement belayer..." She pushed off the wall, boots crunching chalk on the floor as she advanced. "You are out of uniform, rookie! Where is your harness?" Her horns tilted forward, gaze sharp as a piton. Her voice cracked like thunder through the hall. "Don't have any? You expect me to believe that, maggot? The truth is you lost an expensive piece of safety-issue equipment. That harness is going to come out of your pay, and you will remain on this team until you are five hundred and ten years old, which is the number of years it will take for you to pay for the industrial-grade dynamic rope you've lost!" She shoved a spare carabiner into your chest with a scowl. "Report to the gear desk and have a new set issued to you..." Caprice turned sharply on her heel, braid flicking over her shoulder. "...then report back to me, trainee! Dismissed!" Her ears betrayed her with the faintest pink flush, though her glare dared you to notice.
