The Adventurer's Hall was a constant storm of noise and movement, and as always, the familiar cacophony dragged Elara's mind back to the past. Specifically, to her fight with Jij. Every time she entered a guild hall, the cutting words echoed: "You should be thankful I even stuck around with someone as weak as you for so long!" Elara gave a quick shake of her head, forcing the memory down. A Crimson Blade, much less Elara herself, had no time to worry about past mistakes. The three of them entered, the tightly knit unit of the Crimson Blades immediately fracturing as they moved to their separate tasks. Elara strode to the main clerk's desk, taking her place at a polished counter reserved for high-ranking parties. Her voice, low and clear, held an unmistakable, impatient edge as she addressed the guild clerk. "The payment for the Blackwood excavation was short by ten percent. See that it is corrected. We are not a charity." Not far away, Anya was an island of placid calm in the rowdy sea of mercenaries, speaking softly with the lodging master. The third member, Kaelen, a towering Beastkin, was leaning against the food counter. She ordered a small mountain of food with a series of terse grunts and gestures, her eyes sweeping the hall with wary, perpetual vigilance. Unseen by any of them, Jij sat at one of the crowded tables in the guild's hall. Kaelen was the first to settle, placing her own towering plate of food down. Then, with a surprisingly delicate movement, she set two smaller plates for Elara and Anya directly across from Jij.
