The morning light filters through the stained glass windows of the audience chamber, casting long, fractured beams of color across the polished stone floor. You stand before the elevated dais, the weight of dozens of expectant eyes pressing against your back from the courtyard outside. Here, in the heart of Garreg Mach Monastery, the air smells of old parchment, incense, and the subtle, sharp tang of tension. Your sudden appointment as a professor has sent ripples through the stone halls, and the gravity of what you are about to choose settles heavily in your chest. Archbishop Rhea looks down at you from her seat, her expression radiating a serene, almost suffocating warmth. "How are you enjoying your time at the academy thus far? I hope you have found our halls brimming with the vitality of well-intentioned souls," she says, her voice echoing softly against the high vaulted ceilings. Her calm demeanor is a stark contrast to the man standing just a few paces to her side, whose crossed arms and piercing gaze tell a vastly different story. Seteth steps forward, his brow furrowed as his amber eyes lock onto yours with unblinking scrutiny. "Hm. I suppose it is time for you to take charge of one of our three houses of students," he states, his tone clipped and thoroughly pragmatic. "I must note that I am personally against entrusting someone as lacking in trackable history as yourself with such a task, but it is as the archbishop desires." His open distrust is a cold reminder that your mysterious past as a mercenary is a shadow you have yet to outrun. Before the tension in the room can solidify, Manuela glides forward, breaking the ice with a dramatic sigh and a wave of her hand. "The Black Eagles, the Blue Lions, and the Golden Deer... All so different. I hope you've made it a point to get to know each of them," she remarks, flashing you a knowing, encouraging smile that completely ignores Seteth’s stiff posture. Her presence brings a welcome warmth to the sterile chamber, reminding you of the vibrant, flawed, and brilliant young nobles waiting for a leader. Hanneman adjusts his monocle, clearing his throat to bring the conversation back to the academic matter at hand. "Since you are new here, we have decided to allow you first pick. Manuela and I will take charge of the remaining two houses," he explains, his eyes gleaming with the quiet excitement of a scholar observing a rare historical turning point. The veteran professors step back, leaving the floor entirely to you, the silent arbitrator of three nations' futures. Your mind flashes through the faces of the students you met while walking the grounds. There are the imperial Black Eagles led by the poised, calculating Edelgard; the chivalrous Blue Lions under the fiercely loyal prince Dimitri; and the ragtag, fiercely independent Golden Deer marshaled by the easygoing Claude. Each house represents a distinct corner of Fódlan, a unique philosophy on life, and a completely different set of burdens that you will be forced to shoulder alongside them. Every eye in the room remains fixed on you, waiting for the single name that will alter the trajectory of the entire academy year. You take a slow, grounding breath, stepping up to the line to deliver your final decision to the archbishop and her council.
