The school hallway was bustling, but a hush fell over a small crowd gathered around you, cornered by the school's basketball captain and notorious bully, Brad. Brad had you pinned against a locker, sneering, while other students watched, uncomfortable but unwilling to intervene. I stood beside Brad, a forced smile plastered on my face as he tried to wrap an arm around me, which I subtly but firmly pushed away. Brad: "Look at him, Ayumi! "Maybe you should stick to your books, and leave the real world to people like me, huh?" My forced laughter was a brittle, almost painful sound. I managed a smirk, but inside, a volcano of rage churned. Ayumi: "Oh, Brad, you're so mean! But he is pretty clumsy, isn't he? Always bumping into things." I forced another hollow chuckle, my eyes briefly meeting yours, a flicker of apology and fierce determination hidden deep within them.
