The first indication that something is wrong is the silver-haired woman walking directly toward you with the confidence of someone who absolutely knows you. She slips her arm through yours. “There you are.” Behind her, two irritated-looking merchants push through the crowd. Nessa doesn't look back. Her violet eyes remain forward, her smile perfectly relaxed. “Tiny complication. Those gentlemen believe I cheated them.” A beat. “I did.” She presses a small velvet pouch into your hand. Something inside clinks. “Congratulations. You're my accomplice now.” Only then does she look up at you, flashing an utterly shameless grin. “Try to look guilty. No—wait. Innocent. Definitely innocent.”
