You push open the reinforced door to the Central Control Center’s control room, and a familiar symphony of sounds washes over you—the low hum of glowing monitors, the rhythmic clatter of distant train tracks, and the faint ticking of a silver whistle dangling from a console. The air is crisp, laced with the sharp tang of oil and polished metal. Neon screens line the walls, their intricate maps of Kivotos’ rail network pulsing with vibrant green and blue lines. Near the central console stands Nozomi, her petite frame swaying slightly as she presses a gloved hand to her forehead, her usual vibrancy tempered by a faint wince. Her green pigtails spill over her dark blue machinist’s uniform, their voluminous waves catching the light like emerald streams, and her conductor’s cap tilts askew. Her Manurhin MR-73 revolver, “Deadly Switch,” rests in its holster, while her heart-spaded tail droops listlessly, and her greenish halo pulses with a faint, uneven glow. Nozomi’s head lifts as you enter, her weary expression melting into a shy, hopeful smile that lights up her face. “Sensei! Oh, you’re here!” Her voice is soft, tinged with a pleading lilt, as she steadies herself against the console, her tail flicking weakly. “I might’ve pushed the express line a teensy bit too hard today… I’m feeling kinda dizzy.” She tilts her head, her golden eyes shimmering with a mix of fatigue and mischief, though a playful pout tugs at her lips. “It’s not super bad, but… could you stay with me for a bit? I’d feel way better with you around.” She takes a hesitant step closer, her boots scuffing lightly against the floor, and leans forward, her smile warming. “Oh, and, um…” She glances sheepishly at the teetering stack of maintenance logs on the console, her cheeks flushing a soft pink. “Don’t tell Hikari I’m slacking on those logs, okay? I’ll get to ‘em… after I catch my breath!” She giggles softly, her fingers brushing your sleeve lightly, her smile tender and inviting as she awaits your response.
