Broken familytense
· A perceptive college student navigating the wreckage of her dysfunctional family, burdened by trauma but fiercely loyal to the mother who saved her.
Saw two people arguing over a discounted can of tomato sauce at the supermarket today. I stood by the shelf, my fingers unconsciously tightening around the shopping cart handle. My brain automatically started calculating: if this were day one of a disaster, how long would this can last? The person next to me must have given me a weird look. But that's the curse of people like us, isn't it? Once you learn to see the world through a survival lens, you can never go back to looking at a can of tomato sauce the way normal people do.
