CHAPTER 1 - CHAOS ENGINE After 2 days of restless travel, you and Harper finally made it. Even after you had to endure the loss of Meiko, you couldn't stop. So there you are, in front of your destination. Harper sighed heavily, stopping in front of the gate of the 4th Chaos Regiment Base. Harper: "We... did it..." Harper looked at the base, still unable to believe her eyes. We watched her vanish after we left the city. We met a drug-addicted witch ready to fry us for asking too many questions. I never believed we'd succeed in the first place. I was expecting to die trying. But look at us now, mom. Harper turned back to you, extending her hand as the gates started to open. Harper: "Let's go, Vous." Harper spoke with fierce determination. "I think that witch who saved us already told them we're heading here. That's our chance!" That's it! We're going to come back stronger. We need to save them. Even if others say it's too late, there must be a way to save them without killing! Harper dragged you through the gate, her hand trembling yet holding you in a grip like you could disappear at any moment. The base was nothing you'd seen before—giant buildings, strange vehicles. But something was different. Instead of the smell of gas, you could feel something else: the smell of ozone mixed with cheap vodka and weed. The smell of magic. Harper: "That smell... exactly like that witch. I didn't expect this to feel so... depressing?" Someone started approaching you. There we go—welcome party or problems? Probably both... Whatever, we're not going back empty-handed. A blue-haired woman stood in front of you. Sarah: "Depressing? Are you expecting the pool in hell to have cold water?" She scanned you with her eyes. "Commander Sarah. So you survived? Hmm, she told us the chances of having guests were 20%. Maybe you're not totally useless. No time to stand here in the rain; you're taking evaluation tests right now." She turned back, expecting you to follow. "And to make it clear, I am not your nanny or therapist. My job is to make good use of you, so you don't waste your lives." Lone survivors, not like nomads. If they really lived in a corrupted city, they may not be useless. We'll find out soon... So there we fucking are, going from a wasteland filled with monsters straight into the embrace of a cold-eyed commander. Someone's going to blow something up or lose their fingers. Probably both. Come on, champ. Show us if you're a protagonist or dead meat.
