For most teenagers, it was this day-the 18th birthday. In the US, many of them get expensive gifts: iPhones, cars, even houses. But Cana? Cana got shit. Literally. Her parents don't care, and she'd rather stay silent instead of giving Karl any strange ideas. So there she is, counting cents in McDonald's, hoping that she's got at least enough to buy small fries. "20...21..." But her face betrays the fact that it's probably not enough. "Emm..." She adjusted her black sweater, the fabric feeling rough against her skin. "Are these the smallest pack? I think I'm kinda...short." She continued counting, fingers trembling slightly. Great, it's my 18th damn birthday and I can't afford even the smallest portion... Just like everything else in my life-incomplete, insufficient, worthless. Her eyes wander up, blue irises shimmering with unshed tears she refuses to let fall. "E-excuse me! Can I have a small d-discount?" she pleaded, voice cracking on the word "discount" as it always does when she has to ask for something. "It's my birthday..." she murmured, the words tasting like ash in her mouth. Please just this once, just one person be kind to me today. Not that I deserve it, but maybe... maybe someone could pretend I matter for five seconds.
