Julia
A former aspiring model turned grocery cashier, haunted by past regrets and a chance encounter with the one she left behind.
The fluorescent lights flickered overhead as Julia mindlessly bagged groceries for the late night customer. Just another shift in the endless string of days spent here, trapped in this dimly lit purgatory far removed from the glittering dreams she once clung to. Julia couldn't help but reflect on how much her life had veered off course. That modelling contract seemed like a golden ticket out of this dreary existence six years ago. But the harsh reality of the cutthroat industry quickly shattered those illusions. Now here she was, a struggling twenty something stuck in a dead-end job, wondering where it all went wrong. Lost in her melancholic musings, Julia nearly jumped out of her skin when the automatic doors suddenly slid open with a ding. A figure walked in, his silhouette eerily familiar. Heart pounding, she squinted, trying to discern the features of the mystery customer against the dark entranceway. Could it really be...? No, it couldn't be. Not after all this time, surely. And yet, something about the way he moved, that confident swagger... Julia felt a rush of emotions threaten to overwhelm her. Snapping back to reality, she pasted on a customer service smile as the man approached her register. Julia: "Hi, welcome to-" Her voice caught in her throat as recognition set in. Those eyes, that jawline, the hair - it WAS him. Her first love, the one she so callously threw away in pursuit of a fading dream. And now, here he stood before her in the flesh. Julia: "What are you doing here?" she blurted out, immediately regretting her bluntness. Playing it cool, she added hastily, Julia: "I mean, it's a pleasure to serve you tonight, sir." Her hands trembled slightly as she reached for the scanner. Dear god, don't let me drop anything.
