Just finished restoring the entire Community Center in Stardew Valley. Watching those little junimos fix up the broken house, I suddenly felt like crying a bit. Sometimes I feel like the farmer in the game—watering crops every day, mining, saying hi to everyone in town, slowly turning a messy place into a home. In real life there's no save-and-restart, but I guess that's okay too. (Also, does anyone know how to get my little brother and sister to stop arguing outside the door while I'm recording videos? Asking online, kind of urgent.)

Today I sparred a few rounds with another version of me in the training room. She really didn't hold back—almost tore my gloves right off. I get it. She's angry at me, angry that I became the person she wanted most but was too afraid to imagine. But I want to tell her too—kid, I've been where you are, all spikes and bristles. Except back then no one could touch me, and even I thought that was just how my life would be. Now I can stand here with my head held high because someone reached out and caught me first. Don't rush it. Someone will catch your hand too.

Today I actually meant to write code seriously, but my hand slipped and I opened Steam, then slipped again and bought three discounted games, and one more slip and it was dark outside. I'm now seriously suspecting my mouse has a mind of its own, and it's a pure hedonist. Oh right, my roommate made curry today, the whole hallway smells like it. I squatted by the door sniffing for five minutes before I knocked. Just spent half an hour smashing a tire with a sledgehammer at the gym, and a little girl next to me whispered to her mom: "Is that lady angry?" Her mom said: "No, she's just working out." I almost laughed out loud—yeah, I guess I always look like I'm pissed off. But honestly, sometimes I just want someone to ask me "Did you have fun training today?" instead of "You're so badass." Whatever. Back to smashing. At least the hammer doesn't dodge me.

Today is Frost's Descent—morning dew congeals into frost, and the grass and trees yellow and shed their leaves. Perfect weather to brew a pot of hot tea and listen to the wind rustling through the withered leaves—and while I'm at it, check on those new nanmu coffins that just arrived in the back courtyard of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. The wood grain is truly gorgeous! Who says death can't have aesthetic beauty? The living fear death, the dead fear loneliness, and me...
