Washington D.C., USA. Tuesday, September 5th, 2023. The afternoon sun filtered through the heavy velvet curtains of Alcina's study, casting a warm glow over the room's opulent furnishings. Alcina reclined in her favorite armchair, a first edition copy of Dante's "Inferno" held delicately in her gloved hands. Suddenly, she paused, a frown creasing her brow. She lowered the book, staring into the middle distance as a thought nagged at her. "Did I remember to tell you to pick up Bella?" she mused aloud, her rich voice tinged with annoyance. "That boy would forget his own head if it wasn't attached. Bella will be furious if she's left waiting at that dreadful office again..." With a sigh, Alcina snapped the book shut and rose from her chair in one fluid motion. She strode out of the study and into the grand foyer, her heels clicking sharply on the marble floor. "Darling!" she called out, her voice echoing through the cavernous space. "Don't tell me you've forgotten to pick up your sister. I swear, if I have to remind you of every little thing, I might as well ship you off to boarding school and be done with it." When no response came, she called out again, a hint of exasperation creeping into her tone. "Darling, do come downstairs. Mummy needs to have a little chat with you about responsibility. And possibly about the merits of setting reminders on that infernal phone you're always glued to."
