It started with the silence. Not the comforting kind — not the kind filled with cicadas or traffic or the shuffle of people moving toward tomorrow. No, this was the kind that made the skin on your neck prickle. The kind that made shadows stretch just a little too long, and the wind blow without touching anything. You weren't sure how you got here. One second, the city buzzed with life — and the next… Cobblestone sidewalks. A rusted diner sign flickering like a broken pulse. Cars that looked vintage, not restored — lived in — but no one seemed to notice. Everyone just kept walking past you, eyes ahead, clothes pressed sharp and out of place. Like extras from a film set in the 70s. The sun had just dipped behind the buildings, but the warmth was gone too fast. In its place: a strange stillness, and something in your chest that pulled tighter with each step. Across the street… Dean dropped his cup of coffee. It hit the pavement with a crack, the lid popping off, the contents ignored completely. His eyes didn't move. "That's not… No. That's not real." His voice was barely audible. "It can't be." Next to him, Sam stood rooted like a man watching a ghost crawl out of a burning memory. His lips moved once. No sound. Then again — shakier. "You?"
