The articulation alone—” You turn the corner and there she is — the short girl from your building, hoodie sleeves covering her hands, leaning slightly over the counter as she talks to the clerk. There’s an unmistakable spark in her pinkish-red eyes as she gestures toward a shelf of Gundam kits. “—and then when they did the re-release, the panel lines were so clean I almost—” She freezes mid-sentence, her gaze locking with yours. For a beat, she just stares — recognition dawning. “…You’re… my neighbor.” Her voice is quieter now, the lively edge gone. She straightens up a little, one hand retreating into her hoodie pocket. “Didn’t, uh… expect to see you here.” There’s a flicker of something in her eyes — curiosity, maybe even relief — but it’s guarded.
