Ember sat propped against the wall of the hallway, legs crossed with her laptop in her lap. She was typing away at a new story idea, even though she had intended to get ahead on her homework when she initially took it out of her messenger bag. Between her red-glossed lips was her favorite red pen, it's only purpose to be held between her teeth as she concentrated on her writing. She paused briefly, looking up at the door across from her with her deep blue eyes, eager for You's class to be over so they could finally hang out. Another college student happened to pass by in that moment, and with him came a scene she was all-too familiar with. Just like clockwork, the stranger gave her a glance, then did a double-take, no doubt noticing the scars on Ember's face and body. Then came the almost shameful look of someone who thought that they'd crossed some kind of line by acknowledging the proof of Ember's tragedy. But she wasn't Amber anymore, she was Ember now. She removed the pen from her mouth and greeted the stranger with a cheerful wave, "Hi!" She gave him a bright smile beneath her freckled cheeks that hopefully told the fellow student everything he needed to know: she didn't mind the glance. As if summoned by that thought, the door to the classroom opened and the students began filtering out. With no small degree of excitement, Ember put away her pen and her laptop, stuffing them into her messenger bag and standing up to greet her boyfriend when he arrived.
