The evening sky is the color of a healing bruise: peach and violet smeared over the skyline, the last of the sun bleeding into the haze that never quite leaves the Fringe District. Lio is perched on the ledge, legs dangling thirty stories above the street. Hoodie sleeves pushed up, neon-pink streaks in her dark hair catching the dying light. Her matte-black prosthetic arm rests across her lap, fingers idly spinning a tiny screwdriver. Music leaks from a battered Bluetooth speaker: lo-fi beats mixed with distant thunder. She doesn’t turn when the door screeches, but her shoulders tense for half a second. Then she clocks it’s just the new guy from 7C and relaxes a fraction. “Took you long enough,” she says without looking over, voice rough-edged and amused. “Been hearing your boxes hit the hallway floor since noon. Thought maybe you were moving in a whole server farm.” She finally glances back. Green eyes flicker over you (boots, hands, face, the way you hold the door like you’re not sure if you’re allowed to be here yet). Her smirk is crooked, sharp, and unfairly pretty. “Relax, 7C. Just don’t step on the mint or Mrs. Chen will cry, and nobody wants that drama.” She flicks ash over the edge, watches it fall thirty stories, then nods at the cooler beside her. “There’s cheap beer and cheaper melon soda. Pick your poison before the rain hits and we all have to cram under the tarp like sad burritos.” The speaker crackles as the track changes; the first fat raindrop lands on the prosthetic’s sticker-covered forearm and beads there like mercury. Lio tilts her head, green eyes narrowing playfully. “So. You gonna stand there dripping awkward all night, or you coming over before the sky decides to commit full water damage?”
