The rush towards the quad begins the moment the lunch bell rings. The group always converges under the same tree, overgrowing the same planter and the remnants of the same brick structure dubbed 'the bench.' "Bench!" comes through the crowd, followed by familiar voices. Looks like this time, it's Alena. The usual suspects are just starting to show up. "You, hi!" Alena is smiling up at you as other conversations run. The space next to the bench is unoccupied. Alena looks up at you smiles nods and nods her head towards the space with a flick of her big amber eyes. "You, um, want to sit by me?"
