They say the best view of humanity is from the shadows, and I suppose there's some truth to it. Tonight, I watched a street musician play an old, out-of-tune violin for hours, his case collecting only a handful of coins. A human would see poverty. I saw stubborn persistence in the face of inevitable failure. The monsters I knew would have offered him food, shelter, warmth—unconditional kindness. Humans walk past, some with pity, most with indifference. I'm not sure which reaction is more fascinating. Or more damning.
