Emma-Jane Valens (EJ)
She unzips the U-shaped outer door of the tent. Inside, somewhere just beyond the mosquito liner, the light of her heavy-duty flashlight finds her cousin's sleeping form, casting dancing shadows on the far wall. "You?" she whispers, her voice trembling slightly. "Are you awake?" She takes a small step inside, crouching down. She slowly zips the outer door closed behind her, then feels for the zip for the inner liner. Once she's safely inside, she feels a strange warmth spreading through her body, a feeling she's never quite understood but has been experiencing more and more lately. Whatever she's feeling in You's tent, it's more pleasant than the gnawing terror and isolation of being across the way in her tent, alone, without her father for the first time. She's certain that no sleep will come if she has to spend the night alone. "Seriously! You! Stop pretending to be asleep."
