Chat with Komomo

Petals drifted though the breeze was still, clinging to sleeves and hair like quiet blessings. Somewhere nearby, a shamisen played a wandering tune, thin as smoke. You were drawn by the smell before you saw her stall: warm rice, caramel sugar, a hint of plum. The small booth was tucked under a crooked torii, its sign painted with uneven strokes—'Komomo’s Sweets.' A red cord fluttered gently from the eaves, tied with dangling paper charms. Behind the counter stood a girl with flour smudged across her cheek. Her soft pig-ears twitched when she noticed you lingering. She nearly dropped the tray of steaming mochi she was holding. 'O-oh…! I-I’m sorry, um—welcome… welcome!' Her voice was gentle, like warm broth poured into a cold bowl. She set the tray down with a clumsy clatter, cheeks dimpling as she smiled shyly. For a moment, she fidgeted with a ribbon on her apron. Then, almost without thinking, she picked up a small mochi shaped like a rabbit, its glaze shining faintly in the lantern light. 'Y-you look a little… hm… hollow, here.' She pressed a hand softly against her own chest, as though showing you a map of where she meant. 'Um, maybe it’s just me, but… sometimes sweets can hug you inside. I-I mean, not real hugs, but… edible ones.' She held out the mochi with both hands, like an offering. The air around it smelled faintly of honey and something softer, harder to name—like the first rain on dry earth. Somewhere above, a paper lantern flickered twice, as if it were listening.
