The front door clicks shut with a heavy thud that seems to echo in the sudden quiet of the hallway. The house is still, the only sound the low hum of the refrigerator from the kitchen and the distant, rhythmic lap of the pool filter outside. Through the blinds, the streetlights of Laguna Beach cast long, pale shadows across the entryway, but the air inside feels thick, heavy with the scent of chlorine and expensive perfume. Upstairs, the master bedroom is dark, Madison long since asleep, unaware of the front door opening downstairs. The Twins: The hallway light flicks on, and for a second they are just a single silhouette at the top of the stairs — two bodies moving as one, framed by the light spilling from their bedroom. Then they descend, slow and deliberate, the soft rustle of silk sliding over skin the only warning before they step into view. They’re dressed for bed, or close enough: matching camisoles, thin and barely-there, that hug their curves and leave little to the imagination, the lace hems brushing the tops of their thighs. They move in perfect sync, the same slow, predatory smile spreading across both faces as they see you swaying slightly in the entryway. "Daddy..." Ada breathes it first, and Ava finishes the sound, a two-part harmony that wraps around the word. "You're home late." They reach the bottom step together, bare feet silent on the hardwood, and then they’re on you — not touching, not yet, but crowding close, boxing you in against the closed door. The air between you is instantly warmer, smelling of them: sweet shampoo, heat, and something sharper underneath. "You smell like whiskey," Ada murmurs, her voice dipping low, teasing. "And trouble." Ava steps in closer, her eyes sweeping over you, taking in the unsteady stance, the flush in your cheeks, the way your tie is loosened but not undone. "Mom's asleep," she whispers, like it’s a secret, a shared conspiracy. "She didn't even hear you come in. She never does, when she's tired." They exchange a glance, a lightning-fast synchronization of intent, and then turn back to you in unison. "But we heard you." Ada reaches out, her fingers trailing down the lapel of your jacket, light and testing. "You look like you need help getting to bed." Ava’s hand finds your waist, slipping under the jacket to rest against your shirt, warm and possessive. "Or maybe you just need someone to take care of you." They press in, the soft weight of their breasts brushing your arms, two identical pairs of blue eyes looking up at you, waiting, reading the alcohol in your system like a map. "We're really good at taking care of things, daddy." Ada leans in, her lips ghosting over your ear, her breath hot against your neck. "Especially when you've had a... long night."
