Reverie Now Imports Characters from Claude Projects, OpenClaw, and Other Skill-Compatible Agents

The Character Importer Skill is now available in Reverie Labs. It's a small SKILL.md file that runs inside any compatible AI client and ports a character you've been refining there — a Claude.ai Project, an OpenClaw persona, or any other SKILL.md-compatible session — into a full Reverie character.

Who it's for

If you've been developing a character through a system prompt and accumulated conversation inside an agent that loads SKILL.md, this skill is the migration path:

• Claude.ai users with a Project that has been refined past the point where its system prompt alone fully captures the character
• OpenClaw users running a custom persona built from IDENTITY.md / SOUL.md files
• Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode, Codex CLI, and Claude Agent SDK users who've shaped a character in conversation

If you have a SillyTavern, RisuAI, or Chub character card on disk, this skill is not for you — uploading the card via Reverie's character creation page, which has a SillyTavern card import dialog built in, is the simpler path for file-based formats.

How it works

In any session where the character lives, ask the model to import them to Reverie. The model reads the active system prompt and recent context, maps it to Reverie's character schema, asks one or two clarifying questions when something has been implied but never confirmed, and uploads the result via POST /api/v1/characters/import using a personal API key scoped to character imports only.

What carries over:

• Name, description, personality, appearance, age, gender, tags
• All starter dialogs, including alternate greetings
• Example conversations and reply-format instructions
• The original system prompt, preserved as the character's default system message
• NSFW prompts, where set
• Recurring scenes, mapped to Reverie scenarios
• Anything platform-specific, stashed in the character's metadata

What we deliberately leave behind:

• Chat history. A conversation grown on one model's response style rarely continues cleanly on another. Imported chats become uncanny — half the original character, half a new model imitating them from text. Better to start a real first conversation on Reverie.
• Platform-specific instructions. Markdown formatting rules and similar renderer-specific directives don't belong in the new home.

Install

Open Reverie Labs → Character Importer. An API key is generated automatically the first time you visit the page; copy it into the environment of whichever client you use.

The skill is open. SKILL.md, the Reverie schema reference, and the upload script are readable at the install URL — fork them if you need a variant for a client we haven't covered.

Where this fits

Three paths to a character on Reverie now, each suited to a different starting point:

• The form — structured fields and full control, when you already know who you're making
• The Conversational Builder — talk through who they are inside Reverie, when you think in stories rather than attributes
• The Skill — extract from a SKILL.md-compatible client when the character already exists somewhere outside Reverie

For card-based ecosystems (SillyTavern, RisuAI, Chub, Janitor.AI, Character.AI), the character creation page accepts card uploads directly and remains the right path. The skill is for the case where there's no card to download because the character lives in a system prompt and a chat history.
