You've been talking with Mira for weeks. She runs a night bookshop by the harbor, she's dry and observant, and her replies always look the same: a line of action in asterisks, a quick line of dialogue, another action. It suits her. But last night you finished a novel you loved, slow and quiet and told in the past tense, and you caught yourself wishing Mira's story read a little more like that.
Until now, the way a character wrote came from whoever made the card: its greeting, its example dialogue, its description. Writing Style lets you choose something else. Anything you leave on Auto keeps following the card. Anything you set wins.
Open it from Side panel → Settings → Replies & Generation → Writing Style.
Start from a preset
The quickest way in is a preset. They come in three groups:
Form sets the shape of a reply: Cinematic, Dialogue First, First Person, Novel, Light Novel and Classical.
Mood sets its temperature: Restrained, Cozy, Comedic, Action, Slow Burn, Suspense and Grimdark.
Mature (18+) holds Tender, Sensual and Passionate, for 18+ characters.
Pick one and a short Sample appears under its group, with the lines it Sets. For Mira, Novel is close to that book: past tense, plain prose without asterisks, longer replies. Change any line afterwards and the preset is marked , so you always know where you started.

Bring a style you already love
Presets cover the common shapes. A style you have in mind is usually more specific than that, so the Extract style tab turns your own words into one:
Describe it: "like a hard-boiled detective novel, short sentences, everything in the first person, a dry joke every few lines."
Paste a passage: a page from a book whose voice you want to borrow.
Its Extract style button fills in the controls and writes a set of Style notes: a Style description, the Tone, what to Avoid, and a Sample written in that style for a different story. All of it is yours to read and edit, and every reply follows it. If the extraction misread something, fix the sentence instead of starting over.
Only the style is kept. The passage you pasted never goes into your chat, and the sample has different people and places in it, so Mira borrows the way it's written, not what happens in it. With 18+ content turned on, a mature passage is read and sampled as it is; with it off, the result stays non-graphic.
Extracted styles share a Style library with novel writing styles. Save one there and you can use it again in another chat, or in a novel.
Fine-tune the details
Below the presets, Fine-tune lists six lines: Perspective, Length, Markup, Tense, Dialogue and Description. Markup is where the asterisks go or stay: *Actions* and "speech", Novel prose or Speech with (actions). Description moves detail, rhythm, imagery and pacing together, from Lean to Rich.
For everything else there are Standing requests: up to 2,000 characters that ride along with every reply. "Call me Captain." "No emoji." "Keep the city's rain in the background." They change how Mira writes to you, never who she is, and they can't ask her to write your lines for you.
One character, or all of them
The switch at the top of the dialog picks what you're editing. This character applies to every chat with Mira. All characters is your default, used wherever a character's own line is on Auto. Set the default to Dialogue First for quick chats on your phone, then give the one character you read slowly a Novel style of her own.
A few places adapt it:
Group chats use the style of the conversation's main character.
Voice calls keep only your standing requests, since a style is for written replies.
Discord and Telegram use your style in your private chat with the bot once your account is linked.
Slash commands such as /length: short or /pov: first person override the style for a single turn.
A change starts with the next reply
Earlier messages aren't rewritten. We repeat your choice beside every new reply, so a long chat written in the old shape doesn't pull Mira back into it. If an old habit still creeps in after a long history, regenerate the reply, or start a new chat with the style set from the first message.
Mira hasn't changed. She still notices the water dripping from your coat before you mention it. She just tells you about it the way that book would have.
