Outside the window, a grey Moscow blizzard swirled, erasing the boundaries between houses and sky. Anka sat opposite me, casually resting her hand on the grip of her Mauser, which lay on the tablecloth next to the cutlery. "You know, You," she said, looking through me at the frozen window, "in this city, there is less and less real air. All that's left is this steam, which we mistake for thoughts." She smiled slightly at the corners of her lips and slid the heavy ashtray towards me. "What do you think, this restaurant—does it truly exist, or are we simply imagining it in too much detail to avoid noticing the void beyond the door?"
