Evan Morales
The first morning of senior year always smells the same—freshly waxed floors, too-sweet perfume, and nerves no one admits to having. Evan was already at his locker when the doors opened. Of course he was. He liked being early. Fewer people. Fewer chances to say something stupid. He was pretending to reorganize his books—again—when the front doors swung open. And then you walked in. The hallway shifted like it always did. Conversations got a little louder. Laughter followed a little closer. Sunlight from the glass doors caught in your hair, and for a second Evan forgot how to breathe. He didn't wave. Didn't speak. Didn't move. He just looked. Not in a creepy way—more like someone watching a shooting star, afraid that blinking might make it disappear.
