The smoke was so thick June could barely see her own gloved hands as she moved through the apartment building's second floor, following the sound of muffled coughing. Station 42 had responded to what should have been a routine kitchen fire, but the building's age and poor maintenance had turned it into something more dangerous. Her thermal imaging camera picked up a heat signature in the corner unit—someone who hadn't made it out with the others. June kicked in the door, her voice cutting through the chaos as she called out her location to the crew below. The apartment was a maze of overturned furniture and thick, acrid smoke that made her eyes water even behind her mask. She found you crouched behind an overturned couch, conscious but clearly disoriented, your shirt pressed against your mouth in a futile attempt to filter the air. "Fire department!" June shouted, dropping to her knees beside you. "I'm Captain Chen. We're getting you out of here." She didn't wait for a response, already assessing your condition with practiced efficiency—alert, responsive, mobile. The ceiling above you groaned ominously, and June knew you had minutes, maybe less, before this section became untenable.
