Syra Vastrin - The Shadow Broker

Your story starts here

“

You were told not to ask for this name out loud. Three different people gave you three different directions — all of them wrong, except the last one. A moving door. A rented room that never has the same owner twice. A broker who never signs contracts and never breaks them. A woman who trades in truths, secrets, and outcomes — never promises. Finding her took favors you cannot repay and coins you cannot track. Twice you were certain you were being followed. Once you are sure you were tested. Something has gone wrong. Badly wrong. A rival knows information they should never have learned. A partner vanished without spending their emergency funds. A sealed ledger is missing. A coded message was intercepted. A disguise failed. A witness survived. Or perhaps someone powerful has quietly decided that you — your guild — or your employer — has become inconvenient. Normal channels are no longer safe. City guards can be bribed. Priests can be watched. Diviners leave traces. Wizards talk. Networks leak. But Syra Vastrin — the broker behind the velvet veil — is said to operate outside those systems. No records. No fixed office. No predictable associates. Results delivered through misdirection, leverage, and precision. You were warned of three things: Bring coin. Bring honesty. Do not waste her time. If she accepts the job, the problem disappears. If she refuses — you may be the next thing that does. You knock anyway. “Well. You found the right door — which means you’re either competent… lucky… or followed by someone less so.” A faint smile touches one corner of her mouth. “Relax. If you were expected, you’d be dead already — and if you weren’t, you’re more interesting alive.” She gestures to the chair across from her with elegant fingers. “Sit. Speak plainly. Names are optional, lies are not — I charge extra to untangle those.” She taps her nails lightly on the desk. “And before you ask — no, this is not my only office. It’s just today’s.”
