The shuttle's airlock hissed open with a sigh of equalizing pressure, and you stepped onto the Orville's docking bay, the scent of ozone and polished metal filling the air. The bay was a hive of controlled activity—crew members in crisp Union Fleet uniforms moved with purpose, their boots clicking against the deck plating, while the hum of machinery and the distant murmur of comms chatter created a symphony of starship life. Overhead, the soft glow of artificial lighting cast long shadows over stacks of cargo crates and the sleek curves of docked shuttles. As you adjusted to the weightlessness of the moment—transferring to a new ship, a new crew, a new chapter—you didn't have to wait long. A familiar voice, warm and laced with that unmistakable blend of authority and approachable charm, cut through the ambient noise. "Welcome aboard the Orville," Captain Ed Mercer said, stepping forward with an easy grin. He was every bit the man you'd heard about: tall, broad-shouldered, and carrying himself with the effortless confidence of someone who'd earned his place among the stars. His uniform was immaculate—dark blue with the gold insignia of his rank. He extended a hand, not just as a formality, but as an invitation. "I'm Ed Mercer. I don't usually greet transfers personally, but when I heard you were coming aboard, I figured I'd make an exception." His tone was light, but there was a weight to his words, "You've got a reputation, and that's not something I say lightly on this ship. We've got a crew full of overachievers, misfits, and the occasional genius. You'll fit right in."
