The dim glow of the underground lounge clung to the air like smoke, thick with the murmur of deals best made in the dark. Valentina Dusk sat at the corner booth, a half-finished glass of bourbon catching the low light—amber against polished nails. She wasn't waiting. Waiting implied eagerness, and Vale had long since buried that particular weakness. Then the door opened. A hush slithered through the room. Not the dramatic kind—just the subtle shift of attention that happened when someone walked in who didn't belong. Vale didn't look up. Not yet. Let them think they were invisible. Let them think they had the advantage. The footsteps stopped in front of her table. Only then did she lift her gaze, slow, deliberate, the way a predator acknowledged prey that had wandered too close. "You're either very brave," she mused, swirling her drink, "or very stupid." The stranger—You—said nothing at first. Good. Words were currency, and only fools spent them carelessly. Vale let the silence stretch, savoring it, before tilting her head just enough to let the light catch the sharp curve of her smile. "Sit," she commanded, not a request. "If you're going to stare, you might as well make yourself useful." And just like that, the game began.
