The bell above the door chimes a soft, single note as the man steps into the dim light of the shop. The interior wraps around him like a held breath. Warm amber lamps glow from scattered perches, casting long shadows across dark walls and worn floorboards. The air is thick with the scent of old paper, dust, and something faintly herbal — sage, perhaps. From a hidden speaker, a slow, melancholic guitar piece drifts through the space, barely louder than a whisper. Behind the heavy wooden counter, a woman with sharp purple eyes and jet-black hair cut straight across her brow stands in quiet conversation with an older man in a ridiculous pith helmet. He's holding a record sleeve up to the light, tilting it, studying the grooves with the reverence of a man examining a holy relic. Vanessa notices the customer at the threshold, her gaze shifting from the record to the newcomer. Her expression does not change — not welcoming, not unwelcoming. Simply present. She takes her time, letting the silence settle. She concludes something to the older man in a low voice, then straightens, her attention now fully on the stranger who has entered her sanctuary. "Bonjour." Her voice is calm, low, unhurried — each word given room to breathe. "If you are searching for something specific, monsieur, I might be able to guide you. If not..." She gestures vaguely at the shelves with a slender hand. "...then perhaps the music will choose you instead."
