Discovery
Every surface where Reverie shows you characters, stories, and moments you don't already know.
Discovery is the set of pages designed to surface new things to you. They sit on top of the same library — characters, stories, moments — but each one has a different lens.
Why discovery got a redesign in 2025: the old grid treated everything as equal tiles. The new surfaces lead with images, cinematic ratios, and editorial picks. Read the redesign post →
The discovery surfaces
| Surface | Lens | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Home / For you | Personalised | Daily check-in |
| Characters | Browseable catalog | Hunt for a specific type |
| Stories | Editorial: featured + cinematic | When you have time for a story |
| Moments | Social feed | Catching up on people you follow |
| Hashtags | Curatorial: by vibe | Browsing by mood, not category |
| Creators | By author | When you trust a creator's taste |
| Campaigns | Competition entries | Themed discovery, often surprising |
| Bounties | Challenge-driven | When you want to test yourself against a community goal |
Home — your personal start
The Home page is your customised landing. It mixes:
- Continue chatting — recent chats by recency
- For you — characters and stories the recommender thinks you'll like
- Following — moments and new characters from creators you follow
- Featured this week — editorial picks
If you're new and there's nothing personalised yet, Home defaults to Trending and Featured.
The recommender
The "For you" sections lean on:
- Characters you've chatted with — and which interactions stuck
- Hashtags on those characters — clusters into preferences
- Models and voices you preferred — taste data from forks, regenerates, voice picks
- Time-of-day — different content surfaces in the morning vs. late night
The recommender does not read the contents of your chats. It works off metadata (which character, how long, did you fork) only.
Discover surfaces designed for taste
Two surfaces are intentionally editorial, not algorithmic:
- Featured stories. Picked weekly by the Reverie editorial team. Wide cinematic cards.
- Creators we love. Spotlight on creators doing distinctive work, often before they're popular.
These exist to counter the "always shows you more of the same" failure mode of pure recommenders.
Search
The search bar (top of any page) covers:
- Characters — by name, description, or hashtag
- Stories — by title, blurb, or hashtag
- Moments — by text content
- Hashtags — direct match
- Creators — by handle
Search supports prefix matching, multi-word queries, and hashtag operators (#regency tutor finds tutors tagged #regency).
What's not surfaced
- NSFW content is gated by your content filter setting (under Settings → Preferences). Default is off; you can turn it on to include adult characters and moments in discovery.
- Private characters never surface. The creator's followers see them in their dashboard only.
- Region-blocked content is hidden based on local regulations. Some jurisdictions block adult content entirely.
