Your profile
The three fields you can edit, the rules on your handle, and what other people see.
Settings → Profile has exactly three controls: your avatar, your display name and your username. Everything else on your public page is earned elsewhere or set automatically.
The three fields
| Field | What it is | Rules |
|---|---|---|
| Your avatar | The picture that appears everywhere you do. Click the picture in the block and pick a file. | Cropped in the browser, then compressed to at most 1 MB and 512 px and uploaded as a PNG. Accepts PNG, JPG, JPEG, WebP, AVIF and GIF. |
| Your name | Your display name, shown beside your avatar. | At least 3 characters. |
| Your username | Your handle, and the address of your public profile. | 3–30 characters, lowercase letters, numbers and underscores only. Cannot be all numbers, cannot start or end with an underscore, cannot be a reserved word, and cannot be one somebody else holds. |
There is no bio field, no pronouns field and no country or timezone picker on your profile. Reverie records your country once, from the connection you sign up on, and your timezone from your browser — those are what let scheduled email and proactive messages arrive at a sensible local hour. Neither is something you set, and neither is a profile field.
A bio, banner, links and expertise tags do exist — on the creator profile, which is a separate thing you edit in the Creator Center. See Becoming a creator.
Your handle and its cooldown
Your handle is your profile address: the settings block previews it as Your profile: /u/your-handle, and that page is public.
One change every 30 days. Setting your first handle is free, and so is one correction straight after it. From then on, changing it starts a 30-day cooldown before you can change it again — the settings page tells you how many days are left. The handle you gave up is held for 30 days so nobody can grab it and impersonate you; claiming it back yourself releases the hold.
Setting your handle to the one you already have does nothing and costs nothing.
What other people see
Your public profile at /u/your-handle shows your name and avatar, the achievement cosmetics you have equipped — a title, an avatar frame and a profile theme — and your public characters, stories and posts. Sections load independently, so a slow one doesn't blank the page.
Your email address is not on it. Neither is anything from your chats.
Filling in both a username and an avatar completes your profile and unlocks an achievement. See Achievements for what that is worth, and Cosmetics for the wardrobe those frames and titles come from.
Changing your email address
The email address on your account isn't editable from the settings pages. If you need it changed, ask support — see Getting help.
