First-response enhancement
One-tap rewrites that tune the opening reply before you commit to it.
The opening reply sets the tone for everything after it. Enhance First Response is a panel that appears under that first reply with a row of one-tap rewrites — more dialogue, a stronger sense of place, a lighter touch — each shown as a preview you can accept or throw away.
When the panel appears
It needs all of this to be true:
- exactly one message from you, and one or two replies from the character
- the reply has finished streaming
- you haven't dismissed it in this conversation
- the panel isn't switched off in settings
- the chat isn't in instant chat mode
- the two-reply comparison card isn't open
On a narrow screen the panel is titled Tune opening instead of Enhance First Response.
The actions
Eight rewrites plus a Custom box. At most six show at once, picked to suit the reply that's actually on screen.

The Custom chip opens a free-text box: "Describe how this opening should change…". Submit with ⌘/Ctrl + Enter or the Rewrite button.
What a tap does
Tap an action
A rewritten version streams into the panel under the heading Optimized version. The reply in the conversation is untouched while this happens. Stop ends the stream.
Read the preview
Compare it against the reply above. Errors surface in the panel; if you've been rewriting quickly, a rate-limit countdown runs before Try again re-enables.
Decide
Replace response swaps the preview into the conversation. Keep original discards it. Try again rolls another version of the same request.
Nothing changes until you tap Replace response — and a new tap on any action throws away an un-applied preview. Rewrites only build on each other if you applied the previous one; otherwise each one starts again from the reply currently on screen.
Regenerate is not an undo. It rolls a fresh reply and the panel retargets that new one; it does not roll your enhancements back.
What it costs

The free path is re-checked when the request lands: the chat must still hold three messages or fewer. Beyond that it's billed as an ordinary rewrite even for subscribers.
Turning it off
The X (Dismiss) hides the panel for this conversation only. To stop it appearing at all, go to Side panel → Settings → Chat Experience → First Response Enhancement and turn off Show Enhancement Panel. That switch is scoped to This device.
