Finding characters
How discovery ranks characters, which filters exist, and what to read on a character profile before you start.
There is no single Reverie search box. Characters surface through a handful of separate places, each with its own lens, and search is something you do inside one of them.
Where characters surface

Filters
Beside the sort chips: a Category dropdown, a Gender dropdown (All, Male, Female, Non-binary, Other, Unspecified), the search box, Browse all hashtags, a Card videos switch and Reset filters.
Two account-level settings also shape every grid:
- Tag preferences (Settings → Preferences) — up to 10 tags you want to see and up to 10 you don't. The "want to see" list applies while browsing; the "don't want to see" list applies everywhere, including search and tag pages.
- The 18+ switch — the SFW / 18+ control in the navigation, mirrored at Settings → Preferences → Content filter. It is off by default and turning it on asks you to confirm you are 18 or older.
There is no language filter, no content-rating filter and no time-window filter — nothing that shows "top this month" or "published this week". New & noteworthy is the only recency-weighted sort, and your interface language changes translations rather than which characters you see.
How Recommended ranks
Recommended adapts to how much you have chatted, and only ever reads metadata — which characters you opened, their categories, their gender, whether they are marked 18+ — never the contents of your conversations. Your most recent chats count for more than older ones, out of the last 20.

Characters you have already chatted with are dropped from the list, and 35% of every page is reserved for characters published in the last seven days by creators you follow.
The popularity score
Recomputed nightly for every public character:

A newly published character also gets a cold-start boost of up to 15 points, decaying in a straight line to zero over its first 30 days, so new work surfaces before it has any history.
Search
Search requires signing in, and it is per-surface: the Characters page searches characters, the Stories page searches stories. Moments, hashtags and creators have no search at all.

Terms combine with AND, so tutor #regency finds regency-tagged characters whose name or bio mentions a tutor. Order matters: the parser starts a new term at each # or @, so #regency tutor is read as one tag named "regency tutor" and finds nothing. Put plain words first. Character results stop after 15 pages, story results after 3.
What to read on a profile
The top of the page carries the character's name and gender, a short bio, Created by with a link to the creator, and their categories and tags — tapping a tag searches for it. The buttons beside them are Start chat, Favorite, Share and report.
Below that, sections appear only when the character has that kind of content: Scenarios, Gallery, Snapshots, Reviews, Shared chats, Novels, Moments, Bounties and Stickers. Reviews and bounties stay visible even when empty, so you can add the first one.
Scenarios and shared chats are the two most useful signals before you commit: scenarios show the situations the creator designed for, and shared chats show how the character actually reads in play.
