Personas
Who you are in a conversation, and what a persona actually changes.
A persona is the version of you a character is talking to: a name, a description, and optionally the relationship between you. Reverie sends it to the model on every turn, so the character addresses that person rather than your account name.
What a persona holds
| Field | Limit | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Persona Name | 100 characters | How the character addresses you. It also fills the {{user}} placeholder in anything the creator wrote. |
| Persona Description | 5,000 characters | Free text — background, personality, appearance, pronouns. Sent in full, every turn. |
| Relationship with the character | 2,000 characters | Overrides the relationship the creator wrote. Leave it empty to keep theirs. |
There are no other fields. Reverie does not cap how many personas you keep.
Choosing one
The My persona chip sits in the setup row above the message box, and only while the conversation has no messages from you yet. Tap it to open Choose Your Persona, pick one, or leave No Persona (Default).
You cannot switch persona mid-conversation. Once you have sent a message, the chip is gone. The only route is Chat Settings → Conversation Setup → Your persona, and applying that change opens a new conversation that carries a compressed background of this one — the messages stay behind.
A new chat picks a persona in this order: your default, then the character's creator preset marked as the character default, then none. Once a chat exists, its persona is fixed — including "no persona", which is treated as a deliberate choice and never back-filled.
Creating and managing
Open Manage Personas
From the persona picker. The dialog is Persona Management.
Create New Persona, or AI Create
Fill in name, description and relationship yourself, or describe the idea in up to 500 characters and let AI Create Persona draft a name and description you can edit before saving.
Decide where it applies
Set as default persona makes it your default everywhere. Link to current character only hides it from every other character's picker.
There is one default, and it is global. Setting a persona as default clears the flag on every other persona you own. There is no per-character default — Link to current character only controls where a persona is offered, not which one is preselected.
Personas the creator wrote
Characters can ship up to five playable presets, listed under From the creator and badged Creator preset or Character default. Adopting one copies it into your own personas — Reverie confirms with "Now playing as" and the persona's name — after which you can edit it like any other. A preset you adopt and never touch is cleaned up with its last chat.
What a persona does not change
Personas do not partition memory. Saved memories are stored per character (plus a global scope shared by all characters) — not per persona and not per chat. Everything one persona teaches a character is read back under every other persona you use with that character. See How memory works.
Two more things worth knowing:
- Forking copies the persona. A branch opens with the same persona as its parent and cannot change it.
- A persona blocks link sharing. While a persona is selected, Share as Link is unavailable: "Your persona is private and cannot be shared with others." The image share still works. See Sharing a conversation.
Personas also travel outside chat — the same identity is available to novels and to the reply-suggestion path.
