Creating characters/Plugins
Plugins

Plugins

What a plugin is on Reverie, the three kinds, and where they live.

A plugin is a small extension you install into a chat. It can add hidden instructions to a character's prompt, register a tool the model can call and render as a card, or put a button in the chat that opens a dialog. Plugins are written by Reverie and by other users.

Where plugins live

Open a chat, open the side panel, and pick the Plugins tab. Everything about plugins happens there:

MyPlugins you created, plus a View Earnings button
OfficialPlugins published by Reverie
CommunityPublic, approved plugins by other users, with a search box

The header of the tab has a Create Plugin button. There is no separate marketplace page — the panel is the whole surface. Side panel →

The three kinds

ChipWhat it doesVisible in chatEarns commission
PromptAdds text to the character's system prompt on every turnNo — you see the effect, not the textYes
ToolRegisters a tool the model can call mid-reply; the result renders as a styled cardYes, as a cardYes
InteractiveAdds an entry to the plugin menu beside the message box, which opens a dialog, a form, or an AI-generated panelYes, as a menu entry and a panelNo

Tool plugins do not fetch real data. A tool plugin performs no network calls — no web requests, no calendar access, no live lookups. When the model calls the tool, the model supplies the arguments itself, and the plugin arranges those invented arguments into the card the author designed. A "weather" tool renders a convincing weather card with weather the model made up.

Tool plugins also need a model that supports tool calling. On a model that doesn't, their cards are disabled with Current model does not support tool plugins.

What you install

Each plugin carries the author's configuration plus, optionally, settings you fill in yourself — text boxes, numbers, sliders, switches, dropdowns, tables and markdown fields. You fill those in when you install, and you can reopen them at any time from the plugin's card.

Installing pins the version that exists at that moment. When the author edits the plugin, your chat keeps running the version you installed until you choose to update it, so a rewrite upstream can't change a chat under you.

Who can install what

  • Official plugins are installable by anyone.
  • Community plugins are installable once they are both public and approved. A public plugin awaiting review shows Pending Approval to its author and is not offered to anyone else.
  • Your own plugins are always installable by you, approved or not.
  • A plugin can be tied to one character, in which case it is only offered in chats with that character.

Installations are per chat. The same plugin can be on in one chat with a character and off in another.

You may also see a Param chip on an official plugin. That fourth type adjusts model sampling settings and is owned by Reverie — it isn't something you can create.

Using plugins

Install, configure, enable and update a plugin inside a chat.

Creating plugins

Author a plugin, publish it for review, and earn from it.
