Writing

Story mode

Play an authored narrative where the AI generates every scene.

A story is an authored frame — a cast, chapters, milestones, playable roles, optional data panels — that the AI performs one scene at a time. The structure is fixed; the prose, the dialogue and the choices are generated fresh on every playthrough.

Finding a story

There is no Stories entry in the main sidebar. The library at /app/stories is reached from:

  • Home → Featured Stories → View All
  • Progress → Story Progress → Browse Stories (also where your saves are listed)
  • Labs → Stories
  • the Stories shortcut on the installed app

In the library, sort by All Stories, Popular, Recent, Featured, Following or My Stories, and filter by category. Signed out you get three pages of results; signed in, fifteen — or three while you're searching.

The star on a story card is an average review score — it is not an age or content rating. The only content signal on a card is the NSFW badge. ("Recommended" in story mode means something else: it is the badge on the author's default role.)

Starting a play session

Pick a role

Start Adventure opens Choose Your Role. Every story has at least one playable role; the author's default is badged Recommended. Your choice is fixed for this save.

Read the opening

The opening text comes from the story and its first chapter. Every role sees the same opening — a role changes how the AI writes you into the scene, not what the story opens with.

Take a turn

Tap one of the offered choices, type your own action in the box (up to 2,000 characters), or continue without input. The AI writes the next scene and ends it with a fresh set of 2–4 choices.

What a scene is made of

A turn comes back as a sequence of segments, not a block of text: narration, dialogue (attributed to a character, with an emotion the voice reads), scene images, time passages, location changes, system messages, chapter transitions, milestone unlocks and data-panel updates. The last segment is always a set of choices.

Everything the AI invents outside the author's structure is stripped before the turn is saved. Chapter moves are only accepted going forward and only to a chapter that exists; milestones unlock only if they are real and still locked; panel writes only land on panels and fields the author defined, merged field by field so a partial update can't wipe a panel.

Those choices are generated for that one turn and are not stored as branches. A story has no authored branching: the author writes the frame, and every divergence you see is generated in the moment.

Saves, branches and undo

A story can hold as many saves as you like, running side by side.

ActionWhereWhat it does
ContinueStory detail pageResumes your most recent save
New StartStory detail pageBegins a fresh save, optionally with a different role
Branch from this save pointView history on a turnCopies everything up to that turn into a new save, rewinding chapter, panel values and milestone unlocks to match
All branchesView historyOpens Save Branches — rename (up to 80 characters) or delete any save
Undo current messagePlay headerDeletes that turn and everything after it, rolls the chapter pointer back, and removes the images it generated

Milestone unlocks, panel values and chapter progress live on one save. Nothing carries across saves, and nothing unlocks permanently across playthroughs.

The sidebar

TabHolds
Story InfoThe cast, and Private Chat — a side conversation with one character that does not affect the story
ProgressChapters, milestones and the Gallery of chapter covers, milestone art and scene images you've unlocked
Data PanelsThe story's live state, if the author defined any panels
SettingsAI Model, Auto-play dialogue voices, Text Speed (Slow / Normal / Fast / Instant) and Character Voices

Immersive mode hides the interface; on a phone the story suggests rotating to landscape.

Models, NSFW and credits

The model picker in the play sidebar lists only tool-capable models — the sidebar says so — and any other choice silently falls back to the story default, which is the same model novels use. You can switch model between turns.

A story marked NSFW only generates adult content when your own mature-content setting is on; the intensity comes from your chat preference for the story's protagonist, the same one chat mode uses.

Each turn costs credits: the tokens used multiplied by the model's credit multiplier, shown next to every model in the picker. Scene images are charged separately. The free model has a per-user rate limit shared with chat and novels.

What story mode does not do

  • There is no ending. Nothing in Reverie marks a story complete — no "The End", no completion state, no arc resolution. A story runs until you stop playing it.
  • There is no faster queue. Subscribing does not speed up generation in stories or novels; the paid plans add credits, models and other features, not priority.
  • There is no branching tree to map. See above — choices are per-turn.
