Content preferences
Tag filters, the adult-content toggle, and how often characters message you first.
Settings → Preferences has two sections. Personalization decides what you see while browsing; Notifications decides how Reverie reaches you. This page covers Personalization and character proactivity — email and push are on Notifications.
Personalization

The two tag lists are independent. The include list narrows default browsing; the exclude list is absolute, so a character matching both stays hidden.
When a list is filtering a grid, the bar above it says so and offers Show all this time, which drops your tag preferences for that browse only. Restore filter puts them back. Neither button changes what is saved.
Language, gender, the content filter and both tag lists are stored on your account, so they follow you to every device you sign in on.
Adult content
The Content filter is off for new accounts — 18+ characters and images stay hidden until you turn it on. The same switch is in the app's navigation, so you can flip it while browsing.
Turning it on needs an account and an explicit age confirmation. Signed out, the toggle sends you to sign in first. Signed in, it opens Age Verification and only enables once you confirm you are at least 18 — even when you arrive back from a sign-in link that asked for it. There is no way to skip that dialog.
Alongside the toggle is an optional Character Gender Preference: leave it unselected to see everything, or choose to hide male or hide female characters. It applies to what the filter lets through, not to the filter itself.
Your choice is mirrored into this browser as well as your account, so a signed-out session in the same browser keeps respecting it.
Character proactivity
Characters can message you first when you have been away. Character proactivity decides how often.

| Never | Off. The default for every account. |
| Rarely | Occasional. |
| Normal | The middle setting. |
| Often | The most frequent. |
Anything above Never requires an active subscription. Without one, the control shows Subscribe to unlock, and the setting reads Never no matter what it was set to before. A one-time credit purchase does not count — it has to be a live subscription.
