Conversational builder
Build a character by chatting with an assistant that fills the form for you.
The guided builder is a chat window with a Character Draft panel beside it. You talk; the assistant writes fields into the draft and you watch them fill in. It is best when you know the person you want but not the paperwork.
Open it from Other ways to create → Open guided builder in the character editor header, or from Labs → Character Builder (/app/labs/character-builder).
How a session goes
Give it something to work from
The welcome screen offers three starting points: Paste chat logs, Describe someone you know, and Original character. You can also start typing straight away — large pasted blocks are expected.
Answer questions while the draft fills
Each time the assistant learns something it updates the draft and the panel flags Draft updated — tap to view. You can edit any field in the panel directly with Edit, and the assistant works from your version afterwards.
The panel also tracks Profile Completion and lists what is Still needs: outstanding.
Finish the checklist
The Confirm & create action stays out of reach until the draft has all of this:

If you give the character an age, it must be 18 or over.
Create it
Confirm & create saves the character as Unlisted: reachable by link, not listed in browsing or search. The builder says so — "Your character is unlisted for now — you can publish it from its page." Publishing is a separate step in the editor's General Settings, covered in publishing a character.
Images: you can attach them, it cannot see them
You can upload up to 5 images per message, and the assistant can set one as the avatar or file them as stickers or gallery items in the draft — but the model behind the builder has no vision. Attached images are stripped before it reads your message.
So "make her look like this photo" does not work. Describe the look in words, and use the images as assets to attach rather than as references to interpret.
Moving to the full editor
Continue in full editor copies the draft's text fields into the standard character editor. Three things to know:
- It is one-way. Nothing you do in the editor afterwards flows back to the builder.
- Images and memories stay in the builder — only text is carried across.
- The chat draft is kept, so the builder is still there if you want to return to it.
New Conversation discards the draft. Starting a fresh builder session throws away the current character draft and it cannot be recovered. Create the character, or hand it off to the editor, before you start over.
Drafts are held for you between visits — the panel shows Draft auto-saved until a date.
What it costs
The builder runs on an AI model, and the panel names that model and its credit multiplier above the input.
